Color Splash (a dye workshop)

This is a low-water immersion dye workshop where each participant will come away from the workshop with 12 one-of-a-kind hand dyed fat quarters and a complete instructional handout, including a suppliers list. Arlene supplies the mixed dyes and required chemicals for all participants. Also included in the workshop fee are 3 yards of Testfabrics PFD fabric per student. An additional minimum supply list is provided. Examples of Arlene’s hand dyed fabric can be viewed on-line at Delta Fiber Art Fabrics. Student supply list is provided by instructor.

3-hour Workshop

Dressing Up Your Hand-Dyes

A fast-paced informative workshop on how to take commercial or artist-created hand-dyed fabrics and make them your own unique creation.  Learn a variety of surface design techniques by actual "hands on" experience with many different mediums.  This workshop gives you, the artist, experience in making the ordinary - extraordinary.  Student supplies the fabric and loose-fitting Playtex rubber gloves, while the instructor supplies the rest.

3-hour Workshop

Art Quilt Potpourri

In this one-day workshop, each student will create a wonderful small art quilt that incorporates seven different techniques.  We will have fun with free motion machine embroidery on both fabric and Solvy, fusing and working with a variety of fibers (including Angelina Fiber), quilting, binding, and beading the quilt.  With these techniques and demonstrations, the instructor will also share the possibilities of how to incorporate them into each quilter's personal work.  This class is designed for all skill levels.  Student supply list is provided by instructor.

1-day Workshop

Fabric Postcards

Create original miniature pieces of artwork that you can mail to family and friends, as well as collect.  This workshop is a great opportunity to experiment in many different techniques and fun embellishments.  By working in small format, you will learn about composition, the impact of color, and self-expression.  Join Arlene for a relaxing afternoon of making original fiber artwork.  Students will need to bring sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, variety of threads, and any fun beads or embellishments that they might like to incorporate into their postcards.  Instructor will also bring a variety of threads and embellishments for students to experiment with.

3-hour Workshop

Three-Dimensional Embellishment

Create miniature works of art to add a three-dimensional aspect to quilts, wearable art, or just to enjoy alone.  Arlene's simple and fast techniques for creating unique embellishments will give your next project that special "Wow."  This is a hands-on workshop that will leave the participant with multiple finished pieces.  Student supply list is provided by instructor.  Instructor will also bring a variety of threads and embellishments for students to experiment with.

3-hour Workshop

River Run

Finding inspiration from years of family canoe trips, Arlene has designed this easy and colorful original quilt.  While the design looks intricate, this quilt is perfect for quilters of ALL skill levels.  Students will need to bring sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, blue and green threads, and pre-washed/pre-cut fabric.  Cutting instructions are provided by the instructor.  This is a two-day class, wherein during the first class we construct the center panel of the quilt and the second class is for constructing the sashing and borders.

2-day Workshop

"The Critique Session"

So many quilters want honest feedback on their work from their peers, yet few know how to get exactly what they need and want from group discussions.  As a founding member of "The Collective," a national critique group, Arlene has many years of practical experience in organizing, hosting, and participating in critique. "The Critique Session" is structured to help your group set up guidelines for honest critique in a sharing, encouraging, and nurturing atmosphere.  Included with this lecture is a sample critique session with participants to illustrate the positive benefits of critique.  Guideline handouts to all participants are included.
